2 May 2011 - Race 2 and 3

Due to the strange way all the bank holidays fell this year, we were back racing after only a week. This gave me a chance to make up for the slightly slow and short first race meeting.

Practice

Another lovely day, weather wise, at Castle Combe although the track seemed slippery to begin with. I tried to set a good lap time early on and after a few laps I was convinced I was doing well. I think this may have been a mistake as it seems lots of the faster time were set late in the session. I was quite disapointed with my 1:28.940 which put me 33rd out of 34 cars.

Race 1

I made a reasonable start and was happy to sit on the right hand side of the track and play it safe at the start. I passed Pete Weston on the run up to Quarry and he was blocked from passing me back when Carl Loader spun in front of him. I was able to follow the pack in front of me for a few laps but eventually dropped back a bit. I managed to pass Anne King when she span at Bobbies. I didn't defend too hard when she came up behind me and just tried to follow the faster car to see if there was any tips I could pick up. Towards the end of the race two of the leaders, Tony Dolley and Tony Hutchings came together and hit the wall coming out of the Esses not long after lapping me but the rest of my race was pretty uneventful. I finished 26th out of 29 and my best lap was 1:28.268.

Race 2

The grid for this race was decided by the results from the last race. I made a reasonable start with probably a bit of wheel spin to slow me down. Geraldine Duff made an awful start and I passed her easily. My race was quite uneventful over all. I learnt a lot about the car and was getting faster. Geraldine was catching me towards the end of the race and I made a complete hash of defending my position by being way too slow around Quarry and she easily passed me. I was able to follow and close up on her but the race ended before I had a chance to see what would happen. I finished 24th out of 28 and my best time was 1:26.683 which was a second faster than practice.
